County Planning performs general planning for the county and municipalities  in the areas of Comprehensive planning, Transportation, Outdoor recreation, and grants; and implements planning policies and initiatives through ordinance review and development.

Plans

Community Planning

St. Croix County Community Development Department provides planning assistance and services to local communities in the review, development, preparation, and adoption of local comprehensive plans and ordinances. The process to update a comprehensive plan in compliance with Wisconsin State Statute (WSS) 66.1001 Comprehensive planning takes approximately one year and includes:

  • Public Participation Plan
  • Community survey
  • Joint meetings of the Board and Plan Commission to review the draft document
  • Public Hearing
  • Ordinance to adopt the plan

The process to make a minor amendment to a comprehensive plan takes approximately three months and requires a public hearing.

Current Community Projects

The County is currently assisting municipalities with comprehensive plan updates. Each project has a dedicated page with meeting schedules, agendas, and project documents.

Example Community Adopted Plans

Hudson Area Sewer Service (HASS) Plan 2020

The Community Development Department, as the Designated Planning Agency, reviews all proposed sewer service extensions or hookups for conformance with the Hudson Area Urban Sewer Service Plan for 2020. The Plan area includes City of Hudson, Town of Hudson, Village of North Hudson, Town of St. Joseph, and Town of Troy. The plan is currently being updated by West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (WCWRPC). The Plan is available for review at the Community Development Department or the City of Hudson.
