Flooding Awareness & Resources

Flood Awareness Week is February 24 - 28. Find flood safety tips and resources below.

As the days warm, become longer, and we enter tornado and severe weather season, let this be a reminder to prepare for all the seasonal hazards, including possible flooding from the melting snow and rainfall. Since flooding is one of the most common and costly natural hazards in our state, we have valuable experience to draw from.

In 2020 St. Croix County experienced one of the worst flash floods, taking one life, displacing many from their homes and businesses, and costing millions of dollars in damages throughout the county. While it often seems like it is beyond our control, there are measures we can take to help minimize the impact on ourselves and our homes. The information on our website can help you prepare and recover from flooding.

If you are experiencing an emergency dial 9-1-1.

If we see significant flooding people will be encouraged to report their damages by calling 211 or filling out a form online with 211. The information is used by our office to assess the amount of damage to private residential homes & businesses. Immediately following, it is not known if there will be financial assistance provided by federal government, grants, loans or other services. While residents should not count on this funding, everyone will be encouraged to keep record of all expenses and take pictures of damages in the event there is reimbursement or funding opportunities offered in the future. This is the first step in gathering information, so we understand what, where, how much, and what type of damage has occurred.

Submitting a 211 report does not guarantee assistance but is a crucial first step in determining if people may be eligible for disaster assistance programs.
