The DayAway program is a social model adult day respite care program. Adult day respite has been shown to delay functional or cognitive decline as a result of meaningful engagement and activity. The day includes activities and a morning snack and noon meal. The program is designed for those age 60 and over who are frail or those who have cognitive issues related to dementia - any age.
The DayAway staff and volunteers provide a friendly structured environment. Activities include: physical exercise, socializing, games, puzzles, card games, crafts, and artistic projects, music, movies, and occasional outing. A morning snack and hot, nutritious lunch is provided.
The program is funded through the Alzheimer's Family Caregiver Support Program, National Family Caregiver Support Program and donations. There is no fee for residents of St. Croix County. Initial intake paperwork needs to be completed prior to enrollment.
