How to buy less and buy better

Buying less is not only good for your wallet, it is also good for our environment. Next time you are planning on recycling, ask yourself if there is another use for that item. Here are some quick tips to help you re-think, repair, reduce and reuse... before you recycle.

Why compost? Composting reduces the need for pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Because compost enriches soil and promotes healthy plant growth, plants grown in compost-rich soil tend to be more resilient to diseases, pests, and fungi.

25-30% of American household waste is compostable food scraps
Prevent methane pollution, a major factor in global warming
Save resources, landfill space, and return valuable organic material to the earth
Mix into your garden or flower beds to improve plant growth or over your lawn and embankments to help reduce erosion

As part of the annual St. Croix County tree sale, we offer both compost bins and collection pails. Quantities are limited.

Do you have old appliances or electronics to recycle? St. Croix County will be hosting an appliance and electronics recycling event at several locations throughout the County on May 20th. The Your Wasteline newsletter is moving to a digital version with limited printed copies available at St. Croix County government buildings, libraries, and senior centers. Printed copies will be mailed through the fall of 2023.
