September is Preparedness Month
"Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disaster is protecting everyone you love"
September is National Preparedness Month, where our focus is raising awareness and educating about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that can happen at any time. This year the theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.” We will be using this month to encourage and remind you to be ready for the unexpected and how far-reaching the impacts can be. If you have never thought about how to be prepared, or only think about it tangentially, make it a point to come up with some concrete plans in case the unexpected that you might think only happens to “other people”, happens next to you.
St. Croix County is proud to participate in National Preparedness Month and use this as an opportunity to find ways and help each other understand more about preparing for disasters in your home, at work and in our communities.
Your family may not be together when a disaster strikes so it is important to plan in advance. Police, fire and rescue may not always be able to reach you quickly in an emergency. The most important step you can take in helping your local responders is being able to take care of yourself and those in your care; the more people who are prepared, the quicker the community will recover. Does your family have a plan? Start by answering these four questions:
How will I receive emergency alerts & warnings?
What is my shelter plan?
What is my evacuation route?
What is my household communication plan?
