Proclamation - Snowplow Driver Appreciation Day
The State of Wisconsin joins the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in celebrating the important work and ongoing contributions of all the snowplow drivers, and urges all Wisconsinites to exercise caution when encountering snowplows on any roadway.
Please be aware of your surroundings during winter weather, please watch for plows, graders and trucks. Please stay back and give drivers room to navigate in inclement weather.

General Maintenance
The Highway department provides road construction along with pavement resurfacing (blacktopping), bridge and culvert installation. The Highway Department maintains and repairs numerous Park and Ride lots and several waysides on the State trunk highway system. To effectively accomplish these activities, the Highway Department maintains seven storage and maintenance facilities at various locations; the main shop is in Baldwin with outlying shops in Hudson, Houlton, Star Prairie, Deer Park, Glenwood City and STH 128 (Cady).

Winter Maintenance
The St. Croix County Highway Department is responsible for the snow and ice removal (referred to as snow removal) of approximately 700 lane miles (350 centerline miles) of County Trunk Highways and an additional 600 lane miles of State Highways through contract with the WisDOT. The Department also assists local units of government with snow removal which includes approximately an additional 2,400 lane miles (1,200 centerline miles) of snow removal as well. Snow removal activities may occur any time of the day or night and likely requires overtime by the Highway Department personnel. Careful planning and preparation must be done prior to the winter season to ensure the safe and efficient snow removal throughout St. Croix County. Other winter maintenance duties include: installation and removal of snow fence, application of sand and salt, plowing, shoveling and hauling snow.

Additional Responsibilities
In addition to County maintenance and/or construction services, the Highway Department ensures full service to the County, State, Towns, Cities and Villages by providing planning, engineering and administration services thus ensuring the St. Croix County tax payers a full service organization providing the very best of transportation services.
