Mercury can be found in thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs (both CFLs and tubes), thermostats, blood pressure devices, mercury switches and relays.
Mercury and mercury containing devices are considered hazardous waste and cannot be thrown in the trash. They should be saved for the Clean Sweep Hazardous Waste Collection. Here you will find more information on the Clean Sweep Program.
We recommend storing mercury thermometers and other breakable mercury devices in an airtight plastic container. This will reduce the chances of them breaking and release toxic fumes into the environment.
